Clark County OHV Advisory Committee meeting

Hi all,

To all MRAN members, and to those of you that follow me in the OHV community.

I learned some very concerning news at last nights Clark County OHV advisory Committee meeting.

Our Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has had environmentalists lobbying her for vast amounts of acreage in Clark County

To be changed to ACEC ( Area of Critical and Environmental Concern) and Wilderness. They want her to change the current Land use Bill. So she has released a proposed revised verbiage with many changes to the amounts of original agreed acreage amounts. This was released for discussion on 1-15-20. We learned of it yesterday, also we learned we have until Feb.5th to get our comments in to them at her office. I am going to supply here some links to her document and ask you to look at the same data I did, and see if you agree with me that this is totally unsatisfactory, and presumptuous for both the Environmentalists and Senator Cortez Masto to think this is what everyone wants and is best for everyone.

We “Stake Holders” are not being represented in this decision at all. She was elected by us and is not doing what we the people want.

Therefore, I Stand firm in my opinion that ALL of the proposed additional acreages are wrong and not what we Stake Holders want by adding more ACEC areas and Wilderness areas. The areas I am referring to are as follows on the map I have attached here for you view, and pay attention to the highlighted portions of the discussion draft differences document.

SEC. 206. REVOCATION OF IVANPAH AREA OF CRITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN AND ESTABLISHMENT OF SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREAS.

STUMP SPRINGS SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA.—Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately 141,786 acres, as generally depicted on the map entitled ‘‘Proposed Wilderness—Special Management Areas (SMA)—and Red 10 Rock NCA’’

This HUGE area is on both sides of the highway on the way to Pahrump.

BIRD SPRINGS VALLEY SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA.—Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately 39,282 acres. This area is going to REALLY impact UTV’s going to and from Goodsprings and Blue Diamond road and the whole trail system in that corridor.

DESERT TORTOISE PROTECTIVE CORRIDOR SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA.—Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately42,974 acres. This area is from The road to Goodsprings to Primm.

JEAN LAKE SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA –  Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately 2,669 acres.

GALE HILLS SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA – Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately 16,411 acres.

CALIFORNIA WASH SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA.—Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately 8,203 acres.   Area is on the way to Moapa.

BITTER SPRINGS SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA.—Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately 61,711 acres. This area is a Gamblers MC MRAN race course area near Lake Mead and Echo Bay, and hugely popular with OHV activity as well.

MUDDY MOUNTAINS SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA.—Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately 32,250 acres. Another area near Moapa region.

MESA MILKVETCH SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREA.—Certain Federal land in the County administered by the Bureau of Land Management, comprising approximately 8,430 acres. Area is out in the north Logandale area, MRAN has raced there in the past.

What I have outlined here are some items of great concern for all of us OHV’ers to be aware of and the need for us to act is RIGHT AWAY!

They are giving us until 2-5-20 to send in responses, and give our opinions.I urge you all to quickly act with me and write a short letter stating you are a

Stake holder and enjoy your lands and disagree with the entire bill and it’s additions that Senator Cortez Mastro is proposing.

Simple emails get deleted the Commissioners explained that to us, letters actually get opened and read and counted, it is extremely important!
